Open positions

Open PhD/Postdoc position in event-driven deep network system for continual learning and visual neuroprosthesis

We have two positions in the Sensors Group for an exciting new project on designing event-driven continual-learning deep network algorithms and hardware implementations for intelligent edge applications. Each position will be filled either by a PhD student or Postdoc. Postdoctoral positions are for 1 year with possible extension for a 2nd year.

We also have a doctoral position for an ongoing European-Union funded NeuraViPeR project on developing a visual prosthesis.

Requirements

The candidate for  the algorithms position should have strong knowledge of signal processing and deep networks; and is comfortable with hardware and deep learning tools. The postdoctoral candidate should have performed their thesis work or on an extended project on a deep learning topic preferably on audio.

The candidate for the hardware position should have a strong background in hardware deep network accelerator design, either ASIC or on FPGA and completed an extended project on this topic. The PhD candidate should have taken classes in VLSI design, have systems knowledge, and performed analog or digital ASIC design in a prior project.

Salary is according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Postdoctoral applicants should have a doctoral degree in an engineering /computer science-related discipline. Interested applicants should send a statement of interest, CV, transcripts and 2 reference letters to shihatini.uzh.ch  with subject line containing the words “Application for CA DNN edge position”. Deadline for applications is Mar 15, 2023, or until the position is filled.

Postdoc position in Neural Control

We have an open postdoc position in the subject area of neural control (see this link for our activities). The candidate should have a recent PhD in control or robotics with both theory and real time physical implementation experience using machine learning approaches for adaptive optimal control in uncertain environments. The candidate will be responsible for leading efforts to join continual machine learning with optimal control and to implement these controllers in FPGA hardware neural networks (e.g. EdgeDRNN). The candidate help to guide our PhD students and undergraduate projects in this area.

The position will remain open until filled or until Dec 2024. The employment for this position could be  shared part time with University of Zurich and part time with Western Sydney University (at the International Center for Neuromorphic Systems).

Please contact tobiatini.uzh.ch with subject line containing the words “Application for Neural Control postdoc positionto inquire about this position.

Postdoc positions in real-time edge audio ML perception system
