ETH rules for supervision

For students from other departments (e.g. MAVT), something like the following rules apply (students must check with department for latest policies)

Please consider that MAVT is very strict now with the respect of the deadline and extensions can be given only for special reason (illness, technical problems). The plan of activities and deadlines must be defined in advance and giving more time for improving the grades or require additional workload (out of the defined) is not allowed. Sometimes we had problems with supervision delegated to post-doc or doctoral students not aware of the rules and projects in D-MAVT programs.

Bachelor Thesis: Workload = 420 hours  part-time or full time. The regulation requires that the Bachelor Thesis is conducted by MAVT Professors. This was also discussed in the DK and the exemptions given in the past are not anymore possible. Therefore if students want to do a project offered by your group the enrollment is always under a professor in MAVT. This will help also to set collaboration among different professors.

Semester Project: Workload = 240 hours  part-time or full time. ETH including Titular Professor can be supervisor under the approval of the tutor, but only the Student Administration can do the enrollment in the system. The Student Administration needs an email from the student with the approval of the TP about the start date and semester.

Master’s Thesis:  Workload = 6 months full time (28 weeks). ETH including Titular Professor can be supervisor under the approval of the tutor, but only the Student Administration can do the enrollment in the system with approval and start date of the project.
